What To Expect At Your Philadelphia In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

As you begin the window treatment buying process, some companies, like Sunburst, send out a rep for an in-home consultation. By taking samples to your home, we can present how different window treatments would look with your decor. This process makes it easier to visualize your options and helps you feel confident in your decision.

But what exactly happens during an in-home consultation? And how can showing you different products at your home enable you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Sunburst regularly performs these in-home consultations, and here’s what you will experience at your visit.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

Start by arranging an appointment by calling your local representative. If you already can picture the perfect coverings for you window, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make sure to bring you different options available for your preferred product. We will also offer alternatives, so you can feel confident that your room matches your ideas.

During the actual appointment, we’ll sit down and discuss what you want in a window treatment. We’ll spefically ask about your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency ideas, and we’ll ask about hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your consultant will also ask about how your windows are used and what style you want to acheive. The primary objective is to complety conceptulaize what your decor will ultimately look like with the window treatrments installed.

We might show you many different products and compare each style against each other. Most clients should look at a few different treatments, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or picking the perfect stain to coordinate with the room. We’ll also demonstrate all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

Once you make your pick, we’ll find the exact measurements of your windows. We usually measure the windows throughout the house—even if you only plan to buy window treatments for some of your windows. We do this because many of our clients ask to order additional window treatments quickly. At the end of the appointment, we will walk you through a detailed, written quote, so there are no hidden costs on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Bad In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are sure that Sunburst will perform an easy and enjoyable in-home consultation, there are some actions you should never experience from any window treatment salesperson. It should go without saying, the quality of your sales representative mirrors the quality of the product.

Primarily, your salesperson should treat your home with respect. He or she should arrive when promised, with all samples requested, and offer to cover their shoes with shoe booties. Your rep should always bring product and company pamphlets and pricing details.

When it comes to price, you should always get a detailed written quote. Don’t accept a large pricing range, jotted down on a blank page or the back of a business card. And don’t take pricing information before they take any window measurements. You want to understand how much you should pay and why. Don’t forget to look at references and online reviews.
